Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship is an approach which involves the whole curriculum and management of the school, not merely an ‘add on’ subject. It has its roots in environmental education and development education. As a result, many of the building blocks of education for sustainable development and global citizenship are already present in every school.
Children and young
adults deserve to know that their
linked to, and affected by, the lives and decisions of
others across the world.
They have a right to understand
the crucial issues facing the planet and know

a part in helping shape the future.
Education for Sustainable Development
Enables people to develop the knowledge, values and skills
to participate in decisions about the way we do things
individually and collectively, both locally and globally,
that will improve the quality of life now without damaging
the planet for the future.
Education for Global Citizenship
Enables people to understand the global forces which shape their lives and to acquire the knowledge, skills and values that will equip them to participate in decision making, both locally and globally, which promotes a more equitable and sustainable world.
Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship is about:
