Cork is becoming a world leader in renewable energy. A local wind-power company won a huge overseas project. DP Energy’s main office is in Buttevent, North Cork.

This company, like others in Cork, operates worldwide. Australia approved DP Energy’s Callide Wind Farm. It produces 430MW of renewable power, which can power 130,000 Queensland homes.

The wind farm sits in the Calliope Mountain Range near Brisbane. It helps Queensland switch to renewable energy, as Australia wants to drop fossil fuels. The project starts soon with Irish experts leading the build.

They will install many giant wind turbines, and a network will send the wind energy across the area. This is the Cork company’s third big project this year.

They can develop the Saamis Solar Project. This is North America’s largest urban solar project, and it will be in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. They are also working on Canada’s largest offshore wind project off Nova Scotia’s east coast. DP Energy agreed to this with Mi’kmaw Chiefs last October.

DP Energy also has Irish projects, including Lyra Wind farm in Mayo, which could generate up to 100MW, and Aries Wind Farm, also in Mayo, which could generate up to 50MW. They have projects off Clare, Kerry, Cork, and Waterford.

Hugh Cantwell leads DP Energy Australia’s development. He said his company is ready to move forward and will help Australia with renewable energy. Cantwell looks forward to starting construction and helping Queensland’s renewable energy future.
