Sefton: Residents are pretty upset about the recent bin collection mess. The council has been apologizing left and right for the delays after Christmas.

They even mentioned that they won’t be picking up any extra waste, or “side waste,” because they just don’t have the resources right now. So, they’re asking folks to really think about what goes in their wheelie bins.

The council’s update hit areas like Ainsdale, Birkdale, Ince Blundell, and Southport. They said collections that were supposed to happen on Thursday would now be pushed to Monday or Tuesday. It’s a bit of a hassle, and they know it.

People took to Facebook to vent their frustrations. One resident, Amy, shared that her brown bin hasn’t been emptied since early December. She joked that her green bin is now just a storage unit for all the waste piling up.

Another local, Alasdair, chimed in about how they haven’t had recycling picked up for a month. He was really annoyed about the side waste rule, saying his brown bin would fill up again in no time.

Most complaints were about the side waste issue. It’s basically any extra rubbish that doesn’t fit in the bin. One frustrated resident, Kay, pointed out that with all the holiday waste, it’s ridiculous not to allow side waste when collections have been missed for so long.

In response to the complaints, the council explained that they just can’t handle side waste right now. They said it would mean more trips for the collection trucks, which they can’t manage. They’re asking everyone to stick to what fits in the bins.
