We are a local environmental campaigning group affiliated to Friends of the Earth - one of 200 such local groups in the UK. We campaign on both local and national issues and help to promote sustainable development in our community. Campaigning involves active promotions on the street as well as lobbying politicians and policy makers through letters and emails, especially our local County Council, with whose environment department we have good relations. We are consultees to the Council on sustainable development policies such as Local Agenda21 and transport. Our membership is currently over 40, centred in the Usk valley from Abergavenny to Crickhowell. Our main campaigns so far have been recycling, GM food, transport, rural regeneration, as well as purely local issues on the re-generation of Abergavenny by promoting local food and local businesses and opposing damaging supermarket proposals. Membership is open to all in the area with any interest in environmental issues and who would like to help, or just find out more.
